Email support@plainpoint.net and we will reply. Before that, these are the questions that come up most.
Where is my data?
On your device. Ngern Ngok stores your ledger locally and works fully offline. If you sign in with Google, an encrypted copy is also kept so your other devices can read it — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that copy contains and what the encryption does and does not protect.
How do I back up, and how do I restore?
Export: Settings › Backup and Restore › Save encrypted backup. This writes your whole ledger to a file, encrypted with a passphrase you choose. Keep the file somewhere you control.
Restore: the same section, Restore from backup. You will be asked for the passphrase used when the file was written.
We cannot recover a lost passphrase. It never leaves your device and we never receive it, so there is nothing on our side to look up. A passphrase you cannot remember means a backup file nobody can open, including us.
Ngern Ngok also keeps automatic snapshots on the device itself, taken periodically as you work, listed under Settings. Those are a safety net against a bad edit or a failed restore — not against losing the device, since they live on it.
My totals look wrong after changing currency
Ngern Ngok converts every wallet into your base currency using rates refreshed at most once a day from a free public source. Those are indicative rates, not the rate a bank would give you, so a converted total is an estimate. Amounts shown in their own currency are exact.
Transactions record the rate in force when you entered them, so a past month does not silently change value as rates move. Rows added before that behaviour existed are marked as estimated.
Sync is not working
- Check Settings shows Signed in with the account you expect.
- Tap Sync now and watch the status: Syncing, then Active.
- If it says Sync error, check the connection and try again. Your local ledger is never at risk from a failed sync — Ngern Ngok will not upload a ledger it could not read from the device in the first place.
If two devices disagree, open both and sync each once. Ngern Ngok merges rather than overwrites, so edits made on either side survive.
I want to stop syncing, or delete everything
- Stop syncing: Settings › Sign out. Your ledger stays on the device.
- Erase this device only: Settings › Erase all data.
- Delete the account and everything in it: see Delete your account. This is irreversible and there is no backup we could restore for you.
Does Ngern Ngok connect to my bank?
No, and it never will without being an entirely different product. There is no aggregator, no credentials, no read access to any account. Every figure in Ngern Ngok is one you put there. That is a deliberate trade: more typing, and nothing to breach.
Reporting a bug or a security issue
Email support@plainpoint.net. For a bug, what you did and what you expected is enough — please do not send your ledger file. For a suspected security issue, tell us what you found and give us a chance to fix it before publishing; we will credit you if you would like.
